A refugee festival event
Join Fidra and the Marine Conservation Society for an afternoon of citizen science by the sea!
This workshop is a chance to connect with our environment and each other helping to build a sense of belonging and community in nature.
This event will include two short talks, searching the sand for oyster shells and microplastic to help save wildlife. European flat oysters provide lots of positive impacts to local communities and the environment. Oysters are in global decline and by learning more you can become restoration champions. Plastic pellets (nurdles) are used to make nearly all plastic products, but many end up washing up on our shores and can have devastating impacts on wildlife worldwide. You will be collecting vital evidence for local and international conservation efforts. There will be conversations about our shared environment and how we can save it as we build a community of environmental champions.
This is an outdoor event, please be prepared for all sorts of weather!
Getting Here
Meet up point: Prince of Wales Fountain, Portobello beach promenade, Edinburgh, EH15 2BH.
Travel: Portobello beach is a one hour walk from the centre of Edinburgh or you can travel by bus on the number 12, 19 or 26 route. Public toilets are located on Bath Street and Pipe Lane a short walk off the promenade.
Travel can be reimbursed for Edinburgh (Lothian buses) single, return and day bus tickets for travel to the workshop on the day.
