Case Study Report: Plugging the chemical transparency gap for a safer circular economy - Furniture Supply Chains

The current UK Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) regulations (FFRs) urgently need updating to protect human and environmental health and enable the UK to establish a safe circular economy. To ensure safe and sustainable furniture production that doesn’t hinder recycling, chemical transparency throughout furniture supply chains must be enforced and the unnecessary use of harmful chemical flame retardants needs to stop.

This report and collection of case studies from key stakeholders across the furniture supply chain highlights how progressive furniture industries are taking positive steps to reduce the use of chemical flame retardants, and investigates the challenges of end of life furniture processing, highlighting the need for chemical transparency to ensure safe recycling of materials and disposal of furniture products.
